What is Urinary Incontinence?

Laser Therapy for Stress Urinary Incontinence, Urinary Incontinence is defined as the involuntary loss of urine. The individual will have no control over urine leakage. In women, vaginal birth is the leading cause of urinary incontinence. In addition, age-related changes, such as a decrease in levels of estrogen, which manage the tissues in the pelvis region, contribute to postmenopausal incontinence.

What factors contribute to urinary incontinence?

It has been discovered that persons suffering from urinary incontinence have significantly lower levels of Type 1 and Type 3 collagen. Furthermore, the decline in levels of estrogen in postmenopausal women depletes the collagen reserves even further. This causes a loss of strength in the pelvic region. It has also been discovered that the symptoms will return as long as the collagen supplies are depleted.

Urinary Incontinence is classified into several types:

  • Stress Urinary Incontinence or SUI – Urine leaks when someone laughs, coughs, or puts pressure on their pelvis, such as when they’re lifting weights.
  • Overactive bladder- inability to fully empty the bladder
  • Overflow Incontinence – being unable to totally empty the bladder due to stress Overactive bladder and urinary incontinence.
  • Mixed Incontinence – a mix of overactive bladder and stress urinary incontinence.
  • Urge Incontinence – abrupt urge to urinate

Training the bladder, pelvic floor exercises, dietary modifications, and various surgical and nonsurgical medical procedures are typical treatments for urinary incontinence. Please see for further information on the many alternatives for treating urinary incontinence.

Options for the treatment of urinary incontinence

With the advent of laser treatment, stress urinary incontinence may now be treated more successfully and non-invasively.

Laser Therapy for stress urinary incontinence

Urinary Incontinence is initially treated using non-invasive methods. Due to its non-invasiveness, quicker recovery, and reduced cost, laser therapy for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence has grown in popularity during the past years. This is completed in an outpatient setting at the clinic. According to recent studies, laser therapy is a suitable and efficient therapeutic option for treating stress urinary incontinence.

How is urinary incontinence treated with laser therapy?

The pelvis area benefits from improved collagen structure and collagen synthesis due to the energy from pulsed laser beams. When the tissues are heated , the following occurs:

  • contraction of the vaginal lining within (Vaginal epithelium)
  • promotes the synthesis of collagen
  • growth and formation of elastic tissues (Elastogenesis)
  • the development of new blood vessels (Neoangiogenesis)
  • increases the number of cells that make the collagen that is generated.

What precautions should be done after laser therapy for urinary incontinence?

To prevent an inflammatory reaction, it is advised to delay sexual activity for three days after the therapy.
